New Aadhaar Rules from November 2025 – Big Changes for 143 Crore Cardholders

From November 2025, the Unique Identification Authority of India will roll out major updates to the Aadhaar system that will impact almost every citizen. The goal is to make the process of updating personal details simpler, faster, and more secure.

One of the biggest changes is that people will be able to update most of their Aadhaar details online without having to visit a physical enrollment centre. This includes information such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number. Only biometric changes like fingerprints, iris scans, or photographs will still require an in-person visit. The new online system will verify information directly through government databases such as passport, PAN, or driving licence, reducing the need for uploading multiple documents.

The update fee structure is also changing. From October 2025, demographic updates like name or address will cost seventy-five rupees instead of fifty, while biometric updates will cost one hundred and twenty-five rupees instead of one hundred. Document updates at Aadhaar centres will also cost seventy-five rupees, while online updates will continue to be free for a limited time.

Special attention is being given to children’s Aadhaar cards. For minors between seven and fifteen years old, biometric updates will be free until a specific date. The first biometric update for children aged five to seven and again at fifteen to seventeen will also be free to encourage timely corrections as they grow.

The new rules also bring tighter Know Your Customer and PAN-Aadhaar linkage requirements. It will become compulsory to ensure your Aadhaar number is active and not duplicated, as financial services like bank accounts, insurance, and mutual funds depend on e-KYC verification. Linking PAN with Aadhaar is also mandatory, and failure to do so may lead to the PAN card becoming inactive from January 2026.

These updates will have a direct impact on how people access banking and government services. Aadhaar has become the backbone of India’s digital identity and financial system, so having accurate and updated information is essential. Incorrect or outdated details could delay financial transactions or block access to welfare schemes.

To stay prepared, individuals should check that all their Aadhaar details are correct, confirm that their mobile number is linked, and ensure their PAN card is connected to Aadhaar. Parents should verify that their children’s Aadhaar records are up to date. Keeping personal data current will help avoid future complications when the new rules take effect.

In short, November 2025 marks a major shift toward a more digital and integrated Aadhaar ecosystem. The changes will make updates easier and faster, but they also place greater responsibility on citizens to maintain accurate records. By reviewing and updating information in advance, every Aadhaar holder can make a smooth transition into the new system.
